About the author
J. N. Johnson is an emerging voice in the realm of speculative fiction, known for her unique blend of weird and imaginative storytelling. Born with a vivid imagination, J. N. Johnson’s journey into the world of weird fiction began at a young age when she penned her first story about a seemingly ordinary pencil that embarked on a murderous rampage, setting the stage for her fascination with the bizarre and the fantastical.
She delves into both short stories and novels, crafting narratives that have been described as humorous yet heartbreaking. Her work is marked with a particular focus on exploring themes of speciesism. Through her writing, she gently challenges readers to contemplate the complexities of relationships between humans and those we deem commodities.
J. N. Johnson’s debut novel, Pig, earned her recognition as it was shortlisted in the 2022 Cygnus Science Fiction awards. Pig is slated to be the first in a series of three. Her postcard story, The Farmer, was selected for publication in Darcy Nybo’s Dribbles, Drabbles and Postcards: An anthology of short, short stories.
J. N. Johnson splits her time between the Okanagan, BC, Canada and the remote wilds of Alberta, Canada where she spends her summers working in forest fire detection. And fun fact, she has been hunted by a bear.
